Cameron Highlands Landslide Linked to Heavy Rain; 91 Residents Evacuated

KUANTAN (Dec 1): The Cameron Highlands District Disaster Management Committee (JPBD) has attributed the landslide near Block C of Puncak Arabella Apartments in Tanah Rata to continuous heavy rainfall on Friday, Nov 28.

A total of 91 residents from 24 affected units have been relocated to the Puncak Arabella Hall temporary relief centre or to relatives’ homes. No casualties were reported.

Temporary slope-protection measures have been implemented by the Department of Minerals and Geoscience (JMG), with large-scale cleaning works to follow. Evacuation of adjacent Block B may proceed depending on slope evaluation results.

The JPBD also urged the public not to share unverified information or images on social media to prevent unnecessary panic.
